About The Black Olive

We are a small deli on Southwold High Street that stock a wide range of delicious pies, cakes, bread, salads and plenty more. Come for something different or to grab some lunch. We look forward to seeing you!

Hi, and welcome to the Black Olive Delicatessen. My name is Tracy and I have owned the shop since Easter 2005. Since then, the format of the shop has changed quite a bit, as we explore new avenues.

We always try to keep our offering fresh and unique, and keep up with consumer needs and expectations, as well as ever changing food trends. It seemed like a dream job, but has been extremely hard work and demanding. However I wouldn’t change it for the World!

I am a local person living in Lowestoft with a young family. I have always been a foodie, loving ingredients and experimenting with taste combinations. My favourite place in the World is Borough Market, and the fantastic array of foods available there. I am most at home in the kitchen or at The Black Olive, being creative with fresh ingredients.

Essentially my buying tactic is as simple as supplying food that I would love to buy – thankfully this has always seemed to work!

We endeavour to look to the local area for suppliers, such as Suffolk Farmhouse Cheeses or Havensfield Happy Hens. However, we will always entertain suppliers from further afield if they are the best; for example ‘The Ginger Pig’ sausage rolls, or our much loved Pieminister pies. I am yet to find other companies that can rival them for quality and taste!

The salad bar is my baby. I confess to spending hours looking up new and inventive salad combinations that are seasonal and use the fantastic ingredients that we are lucky enough to stock. It’s not difficult to create great dishes from great ingredients! See our recipes page for some of our favourites.
